THE SHIRTDRESS |
| |
APRIL 18, 2010 |
| |
After staying up half the night preparing for your 9:35am exam, you wake up 45 minutes before class unsure of what to wear in 80 degree weather that doesn't scream "I stayed up all night long studying" AND allows you to run errands and go to your classes looking casual chic. I say go for the shirtdress hanging up in your closet. It's cute, comfortable, and casual. Paired with grecian sandals and a pair of aviators, you'll be good to go!

GOING BOLD FOR SPRING...SPRING 2010 NAIL POLISH TRENDS |
| |
MARCH 23, 2010 |
| |
SO I have an obsession with nail polish. I need for my nails to be painted at all times. This winter I stuck with dark and earthy tones but now that's it warm out and swimsuits, margaritas, and beach parties are right around the corner, I have decided to branch out and go BRIGHT!Bright colors are capable of uplifting your spirit, your mood, and even your day. Nail polish can even helpinspire/revampan outfit. I recently read an article that listing the top spring 2010 nail polish colors and a few of my favorites from the list include Metallic Shamrock by Lancome, Peach parfait by Chanel, Uniform Blue by Rococo, Persmmon Perfection by OPI, Minty Fresh by Mulberry. It's nice out so why not have a little fun in the sun?

DENIM IS IN! |
| |
MARCH 23, 2010 |
| |
A few weeks ago as I frantically shopped and packed for Spring Break I noticed several mannequins wearing jean jackets similar to the one my mom bought me in the 7th grade, and I got scared. Why was the jacket my mother insisted I wear to school now a huge fashion trend? So I went home, did my research, flipped through Glamour, Vogue, and Instyle and found out that this season denim is IN. Not just the cute pair of skinny jeans I wear religiously but denim jackets, shoes, and dresses. Denim is everywhere! Luckily my mom saved my clothes so I have a cute piece to start with, but what's nice about this trend is you can branch out this season and mix your denim pieces with khaki, brights, and whites depending on the occasion. If you're feeling lucky, find your inner fashionista and pair your denim with big bold pieces ofnature-inspired jewelry.Whatever you decide remember Denim is IN, so wear it like you're Olivia Newton-John in Grease and wear it well!!

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!! |
| |
MARCH 8, 2010 |
| |
It's a beautiful day here in DC for a couple of reasons! First, it's 65 degrees and sunny. Instead of having to be bundled up from head to toe today, I can wander across campus in a light oversized sweater, leggings, and my BCBGeneration short boots. After the snowpocalypse DC experienced last month, I have decided to thoroughly enjoy each and every day of pure sunshine.
Second (and more importantly), today is International Women's Day! International Women's Day has been celebrated for 100 years, and what makes today so special is that women continue to persevere! One hundred years ago, on the first International Women's Day, a woman's place was literally in the home. Her main role was caretaker and she was expected to preserve her innocence and "civilize" the man she married.
Despite our trials and tribulations, we as women have a lot to celebrate!! Today we celebrate the first ever female best director at the Oscars Kathryn Bigelow;we celebrate the first African American First Lady Michelle Obama, and we celebrate the first female president of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil, just to name a few.
Here at GWU, my house proctor kindly reminded me that while we celebrate the freedoms that allow approximately half of the GW student body to pursue an education and a future, we also remember the millions of women around the world who lack the means to do the same. Today is an opportunity to be thankful for our blessings, but also it's an opportunity to continue to fight for what we believe in. All in all, women have come a long, long way since 1910 however it shouldn't stop here!
A quote I live by is " If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded," (Maya Angelou).
