Friday, February 13th, 2009.
While most people consider Friday the 13th to be a day filled with bad luck, I now consider it to be the luckiest day of my life. That is the day that I met the man behind all things BCBG - Max Azria. And let me tell you, that is a day that I will truly never forget.
After a semester of planning events, passing out surveys, and promoting BCBGeneration, my fellow LSU Ambassadors and I went our separate ways for winter break. Although I was enjoying the time off from school, I couldn't help but wonder who had been chosen to go to the Fall 09 BCBGMAXAZRIA Fashion Show in NYC. Well, I got the email stating that we had won in early January, and ecstatic doesn't even begin to explain how I felt.
Now wait a minute ... me? Going to Fashion Week? I couldn't believe it. All of our hard work had paid off, and now one of my lifelong dreams was about to come true! It didn't even feel real until I got our runway show tickets in the mail and we were off New York City.
The entire experience was like a whirlwind! I felt a rush of adrenaline as we walked up the steps to the main tent at Bryant Park, through the swarms of people as well as the paparazzi. We were quickly brought to our seats once we got inside. As we sat and soaked everything in, I was honestly speechless, which doesn't really happen that often! After a few celeb sightings, the lights dimmed and the show began. The show was nothing short of amazing, and I am pretty sure that I am going to buy every single thing that came down the runway!
Once the show was over, we stayed for a bit to take pictures - we wanted to document this monumental occasion, of course. After unsuccessfully trying to locate the source of these really cute hot pink Barbie tote bags in the lobby (Barbie was one of the sponsors this year), we finally decided to leave. It was at that point that we were whisked away backstage to meet Max.
I hurried backstage in a daze, trying to wrap my head around what I was about to do. We weaved through the crowd of people backstage, and were brought up front to meet Max. We all introduced ourselves, and he greeted each of us with a huge smile. After chatting with us about the show and BCBGeneration for a few minutes, we asked if we could take a picture with him, to which he replied with a laugh "you have no choice!" And as if things couldn't get any better, we spotted Lubov Azria, the most stunning and stylish person in the venue, being interviewed right beside us.
Now, this may sound corny, but I left the tent that day a changed person. This was the single most amazing experience of my life, something that I will never forget. I really want to thank everyone behind the BCBGeneration program - especially Jennifer, Andia, and Jackie - you guys have created something incredible, and you have truly changed my life!
Hope you all enjoy the pics! More blogs about Fashion Week to come soon!
- Ashley xoxo
